課程概述 |
This course is an upper-level course on phonetics. Students will learn to:
(a) describe how speech sounds are articulated and realized acoustically, and
(b) identify and analyze the communicative functions of socially structured variations in speech.
Each class begins with a lecture, followed by a practical session (lab/tutorial). |

課程目標 |
After completing this course, students should be able to:
(a) design simple experiments in phonetics using instrumental methods,
(b) apply modern signal analysis techniques to topical problems in phonetics,
(c) perform simple statistical analyses on experimental data collected to test a phonetic hypothesis, and
(d) write a scientific report on the results of an experiment. |
